PASS CREEK

PASS CREEK

The community of Pass Creek was created in 1912 when the Doukhobors bought land there for the planting of fruit trees. Shortly after settlement began, a school was constructed in North Pass Creek. In August, 1923, the school was lost and classes were transferred to an old building owned by the Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood. In 1927, a new school was built on the foundations of the original one. It was a one-room school with an attached teacherage and accommodated 30 to 40 students. This school burned down in 1938 with arson strongly suspected.

For the next four years classes were held in one of homes in the Strelaeff (Hollywood) village. In 1942, a new school was built but it was the victim of an accidental fire in 1947. In 1948, another two-room building with an attached teacherage was built on the same site. This school was closed in 1972. That same year, a new four room school was built on lot five, South Pass Creek. In 1975, an activity room and a kindergarten classroom were added. Classes from kindergarten to grade 7 were held in this school. This school was closed in 1985 and is now a store and storage facility.
